Moving FAQ: Expert Victoria Movers Answer Your Questions

Whether this is your first move or your last, moving always involves some uncertainty. When you move with Your Friend with a Truck, you can be confident that your possessions are being packed and moved by Victoria movers with a reputation for reliability. Here is some advice to help make your move easier:

How do I choose the right mover?

Look for a mover that is licensed and insured, with a sterling reputation. In other words, Your Friend with a Truck!

When should I start packing?

You can start packing as soon as you know you’ll be moving. Things you don’t use often like seasonal clothing, holiday decorations, and china can be packed weeks or months in advance without disrupting your daily activities. This will help you stay organized, and avoid a last-minute packing frenzy.

How well should I pack my items?

Most damage occurs due to vibration during transportation. Delicate items should be wrapped and well packaged with this in mind in order to ensure your items arrive intact. It’s okay to reuse some boxes, as long as they are in good condition and are sturdy. Consider stocking up on packing tape and bubble wrap as well.

Can I leave my clothing in my dresser?

While it’s okay to leave small, light articles of clothing in dressers and armoires, keep in mind that not emptying the drawers could make the item heavier and more difficult to maneuver. Your articles may also shift during transport, in ways you may not expect. It’s always best to pack clothing and valuables, and leave dressers, cabinets, and armoires empty.

Is it that important to label all the boxes?

It is! Labelling your boxes and containers by room is extremely helpful, both for us when we bring them to your new home when you start to unpack. Marking which boxes contain fragile items is also a good idea, so we know to handle them with extra care.

I’m moving at the end of the month. When should I call you?

As soon as possible! The last week of the month is the busiest time for movers, so you’ll want to book your move with us well ahead of time. If you are moving to or from a high-rise, be sure to book the elevator as well.

Can I set the move in / possession date as the same date?

Discuss with your relator at time of selling or purchasing your property the details of your move in and possession dates. If possible, please make the possession of your home at least one day earlier than your moving date to ensure movers have enough time to complete the job.
